The present lot follows the composition by Lucas van Uden, pupil of Rubens, in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna which is based on the original composition executed by Rubens now in The Louvre, Paris. Another version is in the collection of The State Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg.

Sir Peter Paul Rubens 28 June 1577 – 30 May 1640) was a Flemish artist and diplomat from the Duchy of Brabant in the Southern Netherlands (modern-day Belgium). He is considered the most influential artist of the Flemish Baroque tradition. Rubens was a painter producing altarpieces, portraits, landscapes, and history paintings of mythological and allegorical subjects.
